ARTHUR CELEBRATES THE MoMA'S PURYEAR SHOW

Comments from Arthur Blumenthal's Student:

  • "Just a note to express to you my sheer pleasure for your inspiring class ... I have been awed and changed by it! Not only do I "see" art in a richer, fuller way, but the class allowed me to validate my own impressions. Having to verbally express my reaction to a work of art engaged all my sensibilities. Thank you for transporting me from a viewer to one who "owns" Massimo Stanzione's painting of "Rest on the Flight into Egypt." You taught me to go beyond seeing to "entering" (internalizing) a masterpiece and experiencing its energy and deeper dimensions."

THE ART EXPERIENCE: AN EXCHANGE OF ENERGIES

  • "In many cultures sight is considered the most active and intimate of the senses. In Renaissance Italy, as in India, lovers were thought to exchange vital, binding energies through their glances, the same energy that passed between a religious image and the worshipers who looked at it. Isn't this dynamic the essence of what we call the art experience? We enliven objects with our attention; objects animate us with their presence." Holland Carter, New York Times art critic.

Goodbye Cornell Fine Arts Museum!

  • Kären says goodbye
On May 7, 2007, just days after arriving in the USA from Rome, we attended, jet-lagged but happy, a farewell for Arthur at the Cornell Museum at Rollins College in Winter Park. Nearly 20 years of service there. Friends got a kick out of the "gift" in honor of Arthur (a bit different than the Rothschild gift, I must say!) Great laughs as we tossed back peanuts! The Cornell party (sorry it was on a Monday to you who missed it) It was fun seeing wonderful old friends. A bit sad in one way, but mostly gloriously happy, knowing new projects through Loving Art Partnerships awaited us. We basked in the outpouring of affection!

ART AND BEAUTY

  • "For they (art and beauty) are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never visited." C. S. Lewis
